In reality we couldn’t do the great things at our high tech elementary school without great products and services. Here is a list of what we use so you can set up your school the same way — which can save you a lot of time and money by not having to reinvent how to do the same type techie projects that we do.
HP Netbooks
The HP Mini Netbooks have proven to be very durable and reliable in the paces that we have put them through at our school.
Digital Blue USB Microscopes
By having a USB Digital Blue Microscope hooked up to a computer is an incredible experience. Students can share their discoveries instead of just viewing through an eye-piece. With the computer software students are able to capture images and record video, and they post them to their blog — Amazing.
Flip Video Cameras
We love these little video cameras! We have seven Flip video cameras and they are constantly being checked out by students and teachers. They are used for all sorts of projects; from video book reports to recording videos to share with other classrooms across the world. We use the Utra model that shoots in standard-def, we can record up to two hours of video on each camera. Bethke Elementary School Website – Videos
Atomic Learning
We use our Atomic Learning account for many different things, mainly for their vast video tutorial library and workshops. Let’s say your a teacher that suddenly wants to start a student blog, you can look up tutorials on how to use specific blogging software and even watch a workshop all about blogging. We couldn’t do the incredible things that we do with technology without Atomic Learning to teach us how. Atomic Learning Website
Nikon Digital Cameras
We use Nikon CoolPix S220 digital cameras for all of our student photography projects. Bethke Elementary Website – Student Photos
Behringer Microphones and Mixer
We use Behringer C-1 studio microphones and the Behringer Xenyx802 mixer for the great audio quality of our daily podcast news show and for all our our podcasting. Bethke Elementary School Podbean Website
Canon Video Camera
Canon Vixia HF20 and Canon Shotgun Microphone are what we use to make our quarterly movies. We set the Vixia to Cinema mode which is why our movies look so good. The great sound comes from the shotgun mic. Check out our most recent movie on the Bethke Elementary Website – Movies
LEGO WeDO
We do LEGO WeDO (that sentence came out funny) every spring with our students in grades 2-5 and they love it. In fact, they love it so much that they bug me about it all year. So what is LEGO WeDO? It is a small set of LEGOs that has parts that hook up to your computer and then you get the computer to control the LEGOs. It’s really cool and full of STEM ideas for your students. I will shoot some video this spring and post it to the website so you can see it in action.
IXL.com
Although there are many different ways to use IXL.com for math, we use IXL.com for helping students that need more time with certian math concepts. They are able to access the lessons and practices from home and we have seen great improvement with our students in a short period of time. Where was this when I was a kid?
